Sin- any thought, word or act that opposes our true identity

Original sin– 1st sin of disobedience

     Concupiscence – inclination to sin

Actual sin – sins committed by each person

  • Sin is always a personal act, we have the ability to choose
  • Sin always has a social effect

Venial sin –weakens our relationship with God

Mortal sin – destroys our relationship with God

  • 3 requirements for a sin to be mortal:
    • Grave Matter
    • Full Knowledge
    • Sufficient Consent of the Will

Culpability – amount of responsibility a person bears for a sin

  • Good acts dispose us to doing more and greater good acts
  • Evil acts dispose us to doing more and greater evil acts

Sins of Commission – active sin (is done)

Sins of Omission – passive sin (is not done)

 

External sin – by word or act

Internal sin – by thought
